Don’t Pack These Into a Moving Truck

pack, items, shirt, moving

Thinking about renting a moving truck? Well, before you start packing, make sure you know to avoid packing these 5 things. If you end up packing them, you can be in some serious legal trouble or ruin some of your other items.

Moving Truck: What NOT to Pack

Hazardous Materials

These can be a variety of things, and most of them can be found in your garage or under the sink. In general, you want to avoid:

  • Household batteries
  • Nail polish
  • Any aerosol cans (including hairspray)
  • Fertilizer
  • Charcoal
  • Cleaning supplies and other solvents.

Food

Especially perishable foods, you should be moving these by car and only allow them a short time out of the fridge. If you choose to store them in your moving truck, it might be a while until you are able to unpack them. This can lead to mold, bacteria and ruined food.

Illegal Items

This means things like guns, large amounts of cash and anything that if pulled over may cause a problem. If you choose to rent one of our trucks, you will be responsible for all the items inside the truck. Many moving companies will also refuse to transport such items.

Plants

An obviously bad idea, but plants in a moving truck do not do so well. They need sunlight and fresh air, which a truck provides none of. If you are moving across the country or long distances, don’t be surprised when you arrive and all your plants are dead.

Pets

This is a huge no-no, not only is it cruel and unsafe to do so, it’s illegal. You don’t want your dog, cat, lizard etc sliding around the back. There are many hazards that can fall on top of them. Not to mention, there isn’t a lot of air back there. Treat your pet right and transport it in the car.
